Apple Watch: Faster charging and healthier

2024-09-10

Before we know it, Apple Watch will be celebrating its tenth anniversary.

In 2015, Apple released the first Apple Watch, and has since iterated and updated this product line every year, dividing it into two generations based on different processors.

So far, Apple Watch has been released to Series 10 (the tenth generation), and on this basis, different versions have been extended, such as SE, Ulltra, and co-branded customization with NIKE and Hermès. This segmentation is also to meet the needs of different users.

This year, Apple released new Apple Watches, namely Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 Black Titanium Edition. However, the rumored Ultra 3 did not come online as expected. After all, the Ultra 2 Black Titanium Edition only adds a new color compared to the Ultra 2 released last year.

Here are the key points of the new Apple Watch updates:

  • 9.7 mm thick, the thinnest in history

  • The largest screen area in the series

  • 80% of the battery can be fully charged in 30 minutes

  • Apple Watch Ultra 2 adds black titanium version

The changes of the new Apple Watch Series 10 are mainly reflected in the appearance. The screen uses OLED material with a wider viewing angle, and the size has increased from the previous 41mm/45mm to 42mm/46mm, which is up to 75% larger than the Series 3 and up to 30% larger than the Series 4, 5, 6 and Apple Watch SE. In addition, the thickness of the Apple Watch Series 10 is only 9.7mm, which is 10% thinner than the previous generation. Apple claims that this is the thinnest Apple Watch to date.

In terms of hardware, the Apple Watch Series 10 has upgraded its chip to the new S10 as expected, which can realize car accident detection and fall detection functions, and can use machine learning to identify the impact force on the body during slips, trips, and falls.

However, Apple emphasized the improvement in charging speed of Apple Watch Series 10, which can be fully charged to 80% in 30 minutes.

In terms of health, Apple Watch Series 10 is Apple's first smartwatch with sleep apnea detection function, which allows users to monitor their breathing at night through machine learning. Once sleep apnea is detected, it will not only automatically remind you, but also give a very detailed health monitoring report. This feature will be launched in 150 countries and regions this week. At the same time, it will also be updated on the previous generation S9 and Ultra 2.

Of course, fitness functions have always been the specialty of Apple Watch. This time, Apple added depth detector and water temperature monitor functions to the Series 10, supporting the recording of underwater breathing time, tides and other data, claiming that it is a smartwatch product that is "very suitable for snorkeling."
